Spacehouse Ltd is delighted to announce that it has acquired New Start Magazine from its current owners – Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES).
This is an exciting time in New Start’s history as it celebrates thirty years of high quality journalism and continues to offer ‘alternatives for places’ and a clear focus on local economics and communities. It promotes debate about the core questions facing our local communities and the business models being adopted and developed by those providers engaged in the sector.
David Harrison, Managing Director of Spacehouse Ltd stated ‘As publishers within the environmental, local government and wider public sector there is a great deal of synergy between New Start and our current media portfolio. This purchase enhances our coverage of this core market within the local communities sector where there is a real hunger for more enterprising and engaging solutions. I am delighted that the current editor, Clare Goff will continue to lead our work on New Start and she will embark upon a period of investment and development in the title. For those working in the recruitment sector we offer a gateway to the leading candidates – via our 6,000 subscribers, our 8,600 sector specialists following us on Twitter, and our regular and loyal visitors who access our web pages every day’
Neil McInroy Chief Executive of CLES stated ‘Given their experience within the local government market and the wider public sector Spacehouse are perfectly placed to take New Start forward. They have some exciting plans for the brand and I am delighted to announce that CLES will also retain an association with the magazine, and will be working in partnership to ensure New Start continues to tell the stories of the people and projects creating social and economic change in local areas in the UK’.

environment journal launched in May 2016.
Austin Macauley is the new Editor of environment Journal.
“Environment Journal aims to highlight cutting edge practice from across the globe, champion innovation and lead debate on the key sustainability issues facing local government and its partners in the UK. It is bridging the gap between those who are developing solutions to pressing issues ranging from pollution to greener transport and practitioners tasked with putting ideas into practice.
The environment field in local government is growing in significance and represents a key area for councils to generate new income streams. This will continue in the years to come with areas such as waste management and renewables at the forefront of helping local authorities achieve their wider objectives to sustain local services, create sustainable communities and mitigate climate change.
Environmental Journal is responding to that shift. Many of our contributors work in these sectors – bringing a practical slant to what can be highly complex and technical disciplines. The magazine is therefore embedded in the sector, creating a platform for professionals to exchange ideas and strive for excellence”
